What is Panthalia?

At its core, Panthalia is a platform where people can either:

  1. pay money to train ML models, or
  2. earn money by using their hardware to train ML models

Panthalia is different from conventional compute marketplaces in the following ways:

  • Panthalia abstracts away the training process. You simply define the model and Panthalia finds compute providers and manages the training process.
  • We accept untrusted compute from independent providers, relying on game theory to secure the platform. Results are randomly replicated, and erroneous solutions result in penalties.
  • Instead of paying to rent hardware for a specific amount of time, you define a specific computation (e.g. training a model for X steps) and buy the result.
  • Participants set their own prices for participating.

By allowing untrusted compute providers to participate, we aim to improve the efficiency of the market.
